"My name is Rebecca Lothyan Illig. I am a Ceramic Artist and I find great joy in turning organic forms and textures into functional art pottery. I was born in Southern California and I've had homes in many United States cities and overseas. My extensive travels and exposure to many museums, galleries and outdoor environments serve as a deep pool of inspiration and ideas for my artwork.

I love incorporating natural elements into my work, and the accidental birth of organic forms and textures in clay fascinates me. For example, I love the similarity between the crackle of some glazes and that of human skin. I enjoy exploring the evolution of my ideas from piece to piece and I am drawn to objects and symbols that represent my interests in botany, marine biology, microbiology, astronomy, quantum physics, and the Spirit that connects it all. I am often pleasantly surprised by subconscious references to these elements manifesting themselves in my work; I hope the recognition of them will create a stirring in the subconscious and inspire a familiarity - A knowing - A remembrance of the deep connection between all aspects of the One. As I continue my education and travels, I hope to mirror the changes in myself in my art and create pottery that can simultaneously bring its joy and usefulness to the daily lives of others.
